Frequently Asked Questions

Do I still need to see my regular dentist?
Yes, all patients need to see their regular dentist and have cleanings at least every six months or more frequently if recommended by your dentist or hygienist.
How often must I be seen?
Visits during active treatment are about every seven (7)to ten (10) weeks. In retention the visits are about 6 months apart.
How long is treatment?
Treatment time is dependent upon the complexity of the problem and patient cooperation, and can vary from a few months to a few years. Average treatment time is usually 18-24 months.
What is the initial examination?
At the initial appointment, we will do a limited orthodontic exam including a panoramic x-ray and digital photographs.  We will also have you watch a short video on orthodontics. During this appointment, Dr. Ford will point out what problems, if any, exist and inform you of the recommended treatment time. There is no charge for the initial examination.
What about fees?
Fees vary according to the nature of the problem and the extent of treatment required. We will be happy to discuss them with you at the initial examination.
When is the best time to see an orthodontist?
Whenever a problem is discovered by the general dentist or if there is a concern. It is recommended that all children have an evaluation by age seven if their four front upper and lower permanent teeth have erupted. A referral is not necessary.
